#timesup Press for Progress: International Women’s Day 2018

Time is Now. Press for Progress

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania
Each year, on the 8th of March, the World celebrates the International Women’s Day.  It is an opportunity for GIZ -EAC and its partner the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat to join the rest of the world in taking stock of women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. This years’ International Women’s day themed “Press for Progress: Time is Now” was celebrated at the EAC Secretariat with over 300 participants in attendance from across the EAC. The celebration reflected on progress made on women’s rights and equality within Tanzania, the EAC region and across the world. The celebration further called for change, celebrated acts of courage and determination by women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women’s emancipation through testimonies, donated medical equipment to the department of maternal and reproductive department at Mount Meru Hospital in Arusha, a march through Arusha town centre, and exhibitions of interventions promoting women’s rights and empowerment in the EAC.

As part of demonstrating its gender commitment to the rest of the world in commemorating the international women’s day, GIZ –EAC Arusha wore purple T-shirts, took group pictures and disseminated messages on how they are supporting women’s rights and equality at organisational and individual level.
